(Day 4) Seeking God Through His Word, Prayer, and Fasting

Psalm 63

Difficult times serve a purpose. Adversity reveals our strengths and weaknesses. It's during the severe tests of life that we see what we're made of. How strong is our faith in God? will we buckle under pressure, or will we embrace the promises of God and stand strong? Even when things seem to be peaceful and calm, that's the very time to pursue God and draw closer to Him. I must admit, it's not always an easy thing to have a sense of desperation when all appears to be well. Yet it is in those times of quietness that we need to go after God with urgency, knowing that having to face storms is a certainty.

In seeking God, He can prepare us. He knows what’s ahead and all the challenges we’ll face. It’s important that we know how to access God and how to dial Him up through what I call a Word search. On the internet, we may be curious about a word or a subject, and we’ll do a word search. By looking up a word, we get the definition, synonyms, antonyms, how to use the word in a sentence etc. We can even learn about the history of the word, the etymology of it, and how the meaning may have evolved over the years. Even more so, when it comes to the things of God, if there’s a need or when things are still, we should do a Word search by searching the Scriptures. God has a Word that will address our hearts and give us understanding, direction, and hope.

God wants us to spend special time with Him. He doesn’t want to be last on our lists like an afterthought. He doesn’t simply want us to squeeze Him into our busy day; He wants us to make time by prioritizing Him above all else. Through the night, when we are in and out of sleep, He wants to be in our thoughts and in our spirit. He desires to fellowship with us throughout the day, like His Word tells us; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:19-20). We are to proudly claim Him as our God. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; to see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary (Psalm 63:1-2).

In your private time with God, He wants to reveal Himself to you. The power and the wave of His glory that we experience when we worship together in the house of God, can be experienced as you seek Him in your devotions, study, and prayer time. All alone with God He wants to pour out His presence upon you, but it all starts with a desire to seek Him. Seek the Lord and His strength, seek His face continually (1 Chronicles 16:11).

Pastor Reggie, thank you for this lesson about adversity and how we have to stand strong in God's word. This lesson reminds me of the woman who son died yet she continued to say All is well . So powerful is this lesson. God bless you from Sis
